Il titolo originale del libro è The Grapes of Wrath, la cui traduzione italiana è Furore. The Grapes of Wrath, letteralmente I grappoli d'odio, è un verso tratto da The Battle Hymn of the Republic, ben nota canzone patriottica americana, scritta e ideata dalla scrittrice Julia Ward Howe nel 1862 e divenuta famosa durante la guerra civile americana.
